New York City has been in default for nine months. There is no garbages collection, no fire department, no police. Because there are no city wages. The city is out of control from looters, gangs, crazed snipers and the other kind of rats -- the real ones. The garbage brought the rats, the rats brought the fleas and the fleas brought the plague. Those who could, escaped the city, including the doctors.
James Lethe --
Former Advertising Executive
My name is James Lethe. This is my last living child, Jimmy. I’m taking him to find the final doctor still living in New York. I’ve seen Jimmy’s symptoms too often; my twin daughters and my wife. I know there is a doctor. He will cure my son.
Shiv --
Street Kid
Don’t think of me as just some little street kid. My mom ran off to escape my father’s beatings. I stayed until I’d had enough. Then I put a plastic bag over his drunken head and held it till he suffocated. I ran to the subway, where I found this big-ass knife. That’s when I renamed myself Shiv. I found a place to live in the sewer system. It’s not so bad and, so far, it’s been pretty safe.
Calvin “Tractor” Trumbull --
Former Garbage Truck Driver
I drove a garbage truck, until the man decided to stop handing out the paychecks. You work for the city, you expect to get paid. Besides, not a good idea to not pay a 6’4” man with anger issues. Know what I mean?
Felix Moses --
Widow Killer
The wealthy widows, they all love me. And I love their money. I siphon it from teir accounts to mine. Then, when they are left with nothing, an injection of air directly into the vein stops their hearts. Nothing can be detected and I am long gone.
Dr. Larry Adler --
Last Doctor In New York
People get sick. You want I should flee to Jersey? Or maybe Boca Raton? I took an oath. I’ll remain in my home/office until this chaos is over. And I will treat any person who is sick. You need me? Come and knock on my door.
Simcha Aronson --
Pain In The Tuchas
So I’m a nudge to my doctor. I’m old. From a stomach ache, I could get the greps and die. Besides, where could I be any safer than at a doctor’s office? He should be happy to see me. I keep him busy.
